what's in our morning basket

morning basket is one of our favorite times of the day.

it's a time where we come together for family style learning that is enjoyable and fun.

so for those of you who may not know what a morning basket is, it's a basket or bag or whatever you have handy where you add a group of things you want to do together as a family. there are no rules to this basket, instead it just offers a consistency point for you and your family to gather around the table or on the floor for that matter to learn together.

our morning basket consists of several different things ...

- bible | for bible we are currently using our yoto player with kaleidoscope cards which are captivating retellings of stories from the Bible on audio cards. i love this option for us in our current season of life. we eat breakfast while listening and then discuss it once it's done. we really enjoy it. prior to this we were using the biggest story curriculum which we really love also. we would watch the videos and then discuss them. its a great option for morning basket and even gives options for a craft or activity that connects to the lesson.

- morning menu | this is a menu that holds different things for your child to work through. in our menu we cover prayer, poetry, spelling words, bible verse to memorize, affirmations, pledge of allegiance, picture study and writing out the date. this changes from time to time. sometimes i like to add something we're currently learning or longer scripture to memorize. i also offer these morning menus in my etsy shop which you can view here.

- multiplication and skip counting cards | we love our cards by september and co. . we use them for multiplication practice or skip counting. we also use them with this math board from treasures from jennifer .

- president flash cards | we are currently working our way through learning all 47 presidents. we also use these coins with learning our presidents as well. i don't have a link for the cards we're using as they were a target dollar spot find but amazon has tons of options like these linked here.

- u.s state flags | we are learning to recognize the flags for each u.s state along with learning all of our states and capitals. we use these coins for this activity.

- root words | learning origins of words, prefix and suffix meanings, etc. can really help a child with vocabulary and spelling. we are currently working our way through these flash cards to help my little in that area.

- the 13 original colonies | we are currently learning about all 13 original colonies. our u.s state flash cards came with a list so we're using that to help us along. these are the cards we have.

- world watch news app | every morning we watch world watch news which is news that is delivered in a very educational way to families. it has christian values which is a plus for us so that we don't have to worry about what our child is watching and we love how some of the commercials are all about homeschooling! big thanks to my bestie for finding this gem!

- read aloud | a read aloud is apart of our morning basket daily. we are currently reading pax journey home. such a great book! we loved the first one and we are really enjoying this one as well.

well, that's a wrap!

remember, your morning basket can consist of whatever you like. there's no right or wrong way to go about it. like i already mentioned, morning baskets are a great consistency point to ensure your child is being exposed to many different subjects.

make it a fun and enjoyable time with your family. you won't regret it!
