handicraft: leaf embroidery

happy first day of autumn!

the autumn crafting has officially commenced and we're loving every minute of it!

this week we tried embroidery on wood slices. it's actually a handicraft that fellow homeschool mama shared and i fell in love with it so we had to give it a try.

i had my husband drill small holes into the wood slices in the shape of two different types of leaves and then we used an embroidery needle and some embroidery floss to make the design.

it was a really great handicraft for my little to try, i even enjoyed it!

i also use handicrafts like these as an occupational therapy exercise for my son. he was born with low muscle tone which has brought about some challenges for him with things that require fine motor skills and hand and eye coordination. so projects like these are great for him because not only is he exercising his hands, muscles and eyes but he's enjoying himself at the same time. win win!

so tell me, do you have any fun autumn crafts planned this season?! i would love to hear all about them in the comments section below!

happy crafting!
